Edge of a Knife

Edge of a Knife

The enlivening single “Edge of a Knife” constitutes Swedish pop-rock band One Light’s debut. Combining the magnetism of stadium sing-alongs with encouraging – yet emotionally vulnerable – lyrics, the Helsingborg quintet draws inspiration stretching from grandiose acts like NEEDTOBREATHE to the intimist pop approach of BLEACHERS or Sam Fender.

While the song’s electric guitar could transport you to the era of larger-than-life stadium anthems, “Edge of a Knife” is a pop song in rock disguise. “Everyone should be able to sing with us. The sing-along feeling is something we truly love about pop”, the band explains.

Not to mention the memorable and catchy piano hook that could remind you of an Ed Sheeran song; or Linus Karlsson’s vocal performance, which is a skillful example of Swedish pop’s love for easy-listening melodies. This style of songwriting acts as a perfect accompaniment to the hopeful and comforting tone of the lyrics.

“Edge of a Knife” might be One Light’s first single, but they are by no means new to the Swedish scene: The quintet had already captivated audiences and won a regional “battle of the bands” contest while playing in previous projects.

Another highlight in their career was their performance as an opening act for national Idol winner Chris Kläfford. One Light could be a successor to Swedish outfits like Takida.

Formed in the city of Helsingborg, a southern town advertised as “The friendliest city in Sweden”, One Light is an homage to the elements that made arena rock bands like Coldplay or U2 famous. But beyond stadium conventions, the band’s top-notch Swedish approach to production throws a modern spell into the mix.

One Light signed to Rexius Records in the summer of 2018. The band is now preparing for the release of their debut single “Edge of a Knife” on October 4th, followed by an album produced by Alexander Asp that will be available this winter.
