Ascend
Fast rising alternative pop artist REGALJASON is making a claim for his kingdom with his
first release of the year “ASCEND”. Opening the track, beautifully stripped back verses allow for REGAL’s effortless yet distinctive vocals to take centre stage. “I was born to be someone who ascends” REGAL assertively sings as the production takes over in a synth heavy pop perfect chorus.
Drawing from his experience of growing up in Latin America before relocating to the USA and finally London, REGAL blends Afro-Latino percussion with explosive rock guitars to take the listener on this journey with him, all while maintaining the structure and chord progressions of a pop anthem.
On the inspiration behind the track REGAL tells us: “As an independent artist I face many
obstacles in my journey to let my voice be heard. When releasing my debut EP Megafauna,
besides writing, producing, directing, and more, I also had to monitor the data, a task I found to be in opposition to my artistic process. Constantly checking figures such as likes, streams, and views, among other things, took a toll on my creativity. I also found it hard to find my footing in the digital arena especially with my sound being heralded as genre-less and inventive. ASCEND is my response to the emotions I felt during this time. I had to make a choice to own my individuality and promise myself that I will continue the climb regardless of the “figures” that might tell me otherwise.”
Born in Jamaica, raised in Panama and now living in London, REGAL began writing songs
at the tender age of six after being fascinated by the many cultures he absorbed growing up. After achieving a bachelor’s degree at the age of nineteen, REGAL made Los Angeles his base for a year, spending sleepless nights in studios, and throwing small shows in his
apartment before garnering enough attention to release his first single, “Buzzed Love”. Later he moved to London, where he continued song writing and performing both locally and internationally. With his debut EP MEGAFAUNA, released in 2022 REGALJASON has
already gained support from the likes of WONDERLAND, EARMILK and VENTS
MAGAZINE.
With the release of ASCEND set to be his first release of many this year,
REGAL is on an upward trajectory, carving his own lane in the Alt-Pop world.
