Leading Edge
Band
Swedish folk pop ensemble Leading Edge is an ear-friendly combination of organic instrumental melodies and Nordic pop production. A group of musicians with diverse influences, drawing inspiration from bands like The Tallest Man on Earth and The Paper Kites. Their lyrics embody individual universes inspired by everything from neo-noir films to everyday thoughts.
Founded in 2012 by singer/songwriter Anna Johannison, Leading Edge originated as a group of university students in Lund (southern Sweden). The town is known for its rich student life, and its intellectual and open-minded spirit has influenced the band’s aesthetics. The band is currently based in Malmö, where it is led by Anna herself and guitarist/songwriter Lewis Belcher.
The sound of Leading Edge has evolved from pop-rock influenced by Coldplay to a rather acoustic tone shaped in collaboration with Gothenburg-based producer Alexander Asp. Their mellow vocal harmonies are supported by the catchy melodies of the piano, folk violin, and electric guitar.
The band released their first EP in 2016 and got signed to Rexius Records in 2019. The single “Radio Shadow” and subsequent album “Northern Lights” were released under the label in 2020.
